This is not an easy read. It is painful to hear Carrot recount so many painful episodes of her childhood. But she does it in a way that doesn't sound whiny or "feel sorry for me."I have read just about everything that Carrot has put out there for us to read. Her first book of her journey on the Pacific Coast Trail is the best of more than ten books I have read by similar authors. She writes like a surgeon using the scalpel to story tell. Her prose is hard hitting and very real.Carrot has bared her soul to us in the book. Hopefully, the experience was cathartic for her. She is a role model for the so many people out there whose lives and histories fall "outside the box."Kudos !
